Are You Having a Party?

Party Planning
Planning a party can be a hectic and crazy task to do. I know people that can pull a party together at the last minute and become a success. I don't know how they do it but I'm sure that with a little thought, planning, coordinating and pure luck, anyone can pull off a successful party if they follow these guidelines.
  1. Make the guest list. Decide on how many people you will be inviting. This will set the tone for item number 2.
  2. Set a budget. This is what sets the tone for the whole party. Having a base amount that you will spend to put this party together is vital.
  3. Decide on what kind of party you're going to have. Will you be having a dinner or just cocktails? Will you have snacks and desserts or just punch and drinks? Is there a certain theme that you're following and you want your guests to follow as well?
  4. If you are going to be using a caterer, be sure you decide quickly and call them to make sure they will be available for the date you've set for your party.
  5. Send out some semi-formal invitations to your party. People like to feel special so when there is an invitation in the mail, it's a nice surprise compared to just a phone invitation.
  6. Will this party be indoors or outdoors? Depending on the time of year, if you are deciding on an outdoor party, have a backup plan to either move it inside or rent some tents for outside in case it rains.
  7. Order any decorations, flower centerpieces or extra chairs and tables you might need for your party.
  8. Identify the snacks, drinks, and desserts you will be having at the party and make a grocery list. A few days before the party start preparing the snacks and desserts and get everything ready for the cocktails making sure you have all the ingredients you'll need. If you're making a dinner, be sure you have your recipes in hand when doing your grocery shopping for ingredients.
Party planning can be stressful or fun so get out your notebook and calendar to plan, organize, and carry-out your ideas in advance so that your party is as successful as it can be.
